Clinical rigor

Working with me feels like exhaling.
I'm Dr. Tanya Crabb, though on social media, people know me as Dr. Brooklyn Chick™. I'm a licensed clinical psychologist, a Marine Corps Gulf War veteran, an author, and the founder of Soul Works.
Healing here is real, grounded, and human. This is a space built for people who are tired of carrying everything alone and ready for support that actually feels supportive.
Clients describe me as direct without being cold and warm without being precious. I work in metaphor and image, bank accounts, blueprints, foundations, faucets, because that's how complicated things get short. I won't co-sign survival patterns that have outlived their usefulness, and I won't rush you past the wound to get to the insight.
Before the doctorate, before the practice, before the cameras, there was a young woman learning to make her own way, often the first to do it, in her family and in the room. That early sense of carrying something the people around me didn't quite share never fully left me. It's part of why I understand, in my bones, what it costs to hold a story that feels like it's yours alone.
I served in the United States Marine Corps during the Persian Gulf War. Those years, the discipline, the displacement, the resilience asked of me, shaped how I show up today, both in the therapy room and on the stage. The Marine Corps taught me that strength and softness aren't opposites; the strongest people I know are the ones who let themselves be honest.
And then there's Brooklyn. My roots there are woven into the name people know me by, Dr. Brooklyn Chick. It's a nod to where I come from, the grit and warmth of it, and a reminder that healing doesn't have to sound clinical to be real.
Three things show up in every session, and they rarely come together this way.

Care that understands identity, context, and the weight a client carries into the room. You won't have to translate your own life to be understood here.
No therapy-speak, no performing. The work starts from shared understanding, a real conversation between two people who both want you to be well.
My work reaches well past the screen, onto radio, television, and stages where audiences come ready to feel something true.
